Holidays

Holidays are special in Colonial Williamsburg's Historic Area, with a blend of 18th-century traditions and 21st-century celebrations. From the Fourth of July to Christmas, there's no shortage of excitement as you witness our spectacular fireworks celebrations honoring Independence Day in July and Grand Illumination in December. Between Thanksgiving and the New Year, the Historic Area takes on the romance of yesterday with flickering candles in the windows, carolers in the streets, and horse-drawn carriage rides.

Easter

April 4, 2010 - Spring unfurls for modern Virginians just as it did for their colonial counterparts. Make Colonial Williamsburg a part of your family’s Easter holiday with special programs. Check the Colonial Williamsburg “This Week” weekly program schedule when you arrive for specific programs and times.

Memorial Day
May 31, 2010 - This annual commemorative program moves throughout Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area, honoring those who died in service to our country. Wreaths are placed at several sites where the remains of military dead from three centuries rest. Prayers, cannon and musket fire, and music of the Fifes and Drums are all incorporated.
Independence Day

July 4, 2010 - Hear a reading of the Declaration of Independence and performances from Colonial Williamsburg's Fifes and Drums before summer skies are set alight with the mighty crackle and bang of town-blanketing fireworks.
Labor Day

September 6, 2010 - Get acquainted with the roots of American trade this Labor Day. Let the trades itinerary guide your steps, or focus your time in your favorite shops. Either way, you'll be amazed at the ingenuity and artistry of tradesmen and women practicing their discipline using 18th-century methods and materials.
Veterans Day
November 11, 2010 - Colonial Williamsburg honors America's veterans with a procession down Duke of Gloucester Street. The parade culminates in a public ceremony, with militia and cannon crew firing volleys in recognition of those who serve. Hear Colonial Williamsburg's Fifes and Drums alongside voices from past and present.
Thanksgiving

November 25, 2010 - See the dishes that would have graced the tables of colonial Virginians, from the elite classes to the enslaved. Visit the working kitchens throughout the Historic Area, and complement your exploration with an 18th-century meal at one of our historic taverns.

February 21, 2011 - Three of the earliest presidents of the United States spent time in Williamsburg before their election to the country’s highest office. Washington, Jefferson, and Madison appear during the weekend and discuss their connections with Williamsburg.
